Outstanding Facility

Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, a member of Covenant Health,  is a regional referral center for patients with the most complex neurological and neurosurgical conditions. We treat a number of conditions impacting a person’s nerves and nervous system, including:

  • Stroke
  • Epilepsy
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Dementia
  • Alzheimer’s disease

Cutting Edge Procedures

At the Fort Sanders Regional Gamma Knife Center,  we use the newest and most-advanced Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion® unit to non-invasively fight brain tumors and other neurological disorders. Gamma Knife treatment is typically performed in one, outpatient appointment, with minimal side effects as compared to traditional brain surgery. We also use  the most advanced techniques available for spinal surgery. Our minimally invasive spine procedures lead to less pain, shorter hospital stays, and a quicker recovery. We perform more than 300 elective spinal surgeries a year and 93% of those patients go directly home after one night in the hospital, rather than being transferred to a rehabilitation hospital or nursing facility for recuperation.

Nationally Recognized Stroke Care

Fort Sanders Regional is the region’s only comprehensive stroke and rehabilitation program, recognized by The Joint Commission, the American Heart Association, and the American Stroke Association.

Fort Sanders Regional’s emergency department is the hub of the region’s only tele-stroke robot program, allowing physicians across the Covenant Health network to collaborate to deliver advanced diagnostics and treatment to halt the devastating effects of stroke.
